HISTORY:
Male patient in his 60s was admitted to the hospital due to chronic abdominal pain. His medical history was significant for Asthma, Hypertension and COPD.
Imaging revealed a space occupying lesion in left perihilar region of kidney infiltrating the renal capsule and invading the renal tissue.
Chest X-ray and tests for renal function, liver profile, serum electrolytes, and complete blood count were unremarkable.
The patient underwent Left Radical Nephrectomy.
Grossly, the resected specimen weighed 1230.4 gm, measuring 21.3 X 15.2 X 9.4 cm. The fibroadipose tissue attached at the kidney hilum had a mass measuring 5.9 X 5.3 X3.5 cm adhered to the renal vein. The mass on cut surface was heterogenous with trabeculated, nodular and hemorrhagic to pale tan yellow appearance and focally calcified.
