Organ:Soft tissue/Adrenal gland

HISTORY:

A male in his 60s presents with multiple nonspecific symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, night sweats, etc. CT abdomen and pelvis shows a 1.6 cm enhancing peri-adrenal right nodule adjacent but not invading the IVC and liver edge. The right adrenal gland appears normal. He was followed up with excision of the mass.

GROSS:

The specimen is designated "right adrenal mass" and consists of a 2.1 x 1.5 x 1.0 cm piece of soft tan tissue.  The outer surface is inked black.  The specimen is serially sectioned to reveal a 1.5 x 1.3 x 1.0 cm soft, brown, ill-defined area of discoloration surrounded by soft, yellow adipose tissue. No distinct adrenal parenchyma is identified.
