The Department is located on the main campus of Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University with immediate access to resources at the University Medical Center. The Ohio State University Medical Center is a tertiary care facility composed of the University Hospital with 900 beds, the Arthur G. James Cancer Center and Solove Research Institute with 160 beds, and the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital with 160 beds. The Ohio State University Medical Center serves as the major referral facility for the central Ohio region and handles a high volume of varied and complex cases. The College of Medicine at The Ohio State University is also affiliated with the Nationwide Children's Hospital of Columbus, a 370-bed pediatric care facility. The Ohio State University is one of the largest single-campus universities in the world. A wide array of informational resources are available on campus including, but not limited to, the University Library, the Prior Health Sciences Library, as well as a very sophisticated home net and hospital computer network. Residents are able to access Medline for literature searches at any time. The Wexner Medical Center has been ranked as one of the most "wired" hospitals in the United States. The Department of Pathology is a state-of-the-art facility with over 35,000 square feet of diagnostic laboratory space, 6,000 square feet of research space, and 1,600 square feet of resident office space. There are separate resident rooms available in the Clinical Pathology, Surgical Pathology, and Autopsy Pathology divisions. Each new resident is provided with access to the department's information network, use of a personal computer with direct internet access, and a microscope for daily use during training. A departmental photography and computer imaging team is available to help with the preparation of posters, PowerPoint presentations and publication work.
