The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology represents a merger of three former NCI-funded cancer cooperative groups including the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG), the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) and the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG). Combined, these groups and their associated biobanks represent an unequaled resource of expertise, institutional infrastructure and high quality, highly annotated patient biospecimens collected from several decades of cancer therapeutic trials.
The Alliance Biobank at The Ohio State University (ABOSU) serves as the largest biobank serving the Alliance clinical trials. It is located within Ohio State's Department of Pathology. The ABOSU receives, processes, stores and distributes formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) blocks, core and slides, as well as frozen tissue, peripheral blood, plasma, serum, urine and stool from institutions participating in Alliance clinical trials. The ABOSU currently has over 500,000 tissue and fluid biospecimens banked.

The Alliance is also one of the six NCI National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) Groups.
Biospecimens from NCTN Biobanks can be requested either via NCTN Navigator or the NCTN Group’s Biospecimen Access process. In both instances, investigators will be provided with a feasibility assessment and cost estimate upon review of the request.
