BONE and SOFT TISSUE

The Division of Soft Tissue and Bone Pathology serves as the diagnostic resource for the OSU Wexner Medical Center as well as for others in our region in the interpretation of pathologic specimens from soft tissue and bone lesions, which are among the least common and diagnostically challenging forms of adult cancer. The division provides comprehensive diagnostic expertise and services related to the pathology of lesions (primarily neoplasms) from these sites. The division has an active consultation service due the relatively high volume of patients with these uncommon neoplasms being referred to the James Cancer Hospital from throughout the U.S. In addition to evaluation by conventional histology, a variety of diagnostic tools are at our disposal including immunohistology, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), cytogenetics, and access to the molecular pathology laboratory of the department. Active educational initiatives include teaching of residents rotating on the service and a scheduled lecture series as well as programs for continuing medical education. The division participates in the weekly Soft Tissue Tumor Board.
